What to Write in a Thank You Note

The following thank you notes are examples of what to write in a thank you card or a thank you letter. Thanking someone for a gift or help with something is a nice thing to do. You may want to write a little more than a simple "thank you" in a greeting card. For a special gift, it's a good idea to write an actual thank you note. You can use lined paper or take up most of the space in a thank you card.

Sometimes it can be difficult to figure out what to write. Use these as examples. Change these thank you note messages to fit your specific situation.

Example 1: Thank You for Money

Dear Grandma,

I had fun hanging out with you and going to lunch for my birthday. You made me feel special. I really appreciate the birthday card and money you gave me. I will probably spend it on a ___________.

Example 2: Thank You for Your Help Moving

John,

Thank you for your help moving all of our stuff last weekend. I know that I couldn't have moved all of it without you. You are a really cool guy to take the time to help a friend with such a back breaking task. You made the move a lot more fun, and I am glad to have you as a friend.

Example 3: Thank You for Your Hospitality

Dear Smiths

Thank you for your hospitality and opening your home to us. It was fun to be able to visit you and vacation at the same time. You guys are kind and generous. We appreciate the time you spent in preparing for us and the time you spent with us. You have a lovely home, and we enjoyed our trip very much. We hope to have you over to our place when you get a chance.

Example 4: Thank You for the Gift

Mom and Dad,

Thank you for the birthday gift. I was really excited when I opened my present and found out it was an electric guitar. I can't wait until I can play really well. Thanks again for giving me a gift that rocks!
